”The ModProp concept – a highly efficient, modular propulsion solution developed through co-innovation and joint forces”
The High-efficiency Modular Propulsion Concept (ModProp) – A Co-Innovation project
A network of small- and mid-size companies have formed a co-innovation joint action project to together offer a complete propulsion package for mid-size ships with a propulsion power of 1-6 MW per unit, such as eg.:
- ferries and cruises
- icebreaking supply vessels
- (icebreaking) offshore wind turbine service vessels
- product tankers
- workboats.
The companies have joined forces to offer the propulsion unit, the power line and the power distribution system for the propulsion forming the High-efficiency Modular Propulsion Concept (ModProp). The components and systems from the network companies will be fully compatible and can therefore also be offered separately. The customer will still benefit from clear savings in time and in design- and delivery costs.
The ModProp concept is modular and can be modified according to the needs of each ship. As part of this complete propulsion system, smart shipping solutions such as dynamic positioning and autopilot, as well as route optimization for transits can also be included.
To develop the ModProp concept, the companies within this co-innovation project are focusing on the following research topics:
- system design and optimization
- operational optimization
- ice loads on propulsors
- underwater noise.
The network comprises the following companies
